Et tu, Vitamin D?

With all the media coverage on the dangers of vitamins A, C, and E, it would appear that vitamin D supplements had escaped with an untarnished reputation.  But no more!  The research is out, and vitamin D has also been found lacking.  Here are just a few:

Excerpt from that last article: "But the new study, published in The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, strengthens arguments that vitamin D deficiency is usually the result of ill health — not the cause of it." -- This is BIG.  That means we have been going about all of this the wrong way, and that the reductionist view of medicine is based on the faulty belief that the body is merely a sum of its parts.  We are a whole body that needs whole food, not fractionated vitamins and nutrients.

Vitamin D is found naturally in sunlight and in some foods such as oily fish (salmon, sardines, mackerel).  As I have always said, it's always best to eat the food, the source of the nutrient, rather than a chemical derivative.  So if you are not eating enough salmon or spending enough time outdoors in the sunshine, now is the time to start.
